Areas of Practice

Select a practice area to read how these matters are handled in Delhi’s courts.

What Each Practice Area Involves

Criminal Defence and Bail

The criminal practice covers anticipatory bail (Section 482 BNSS) and regular bail (Section 480 BNSS), petitions to quash an FIR before the High Court (Section 528 BNSS), defence at trial, and appeals. Allegations of cheating (Section 318 BNS), cruelty and dowry-related offences (Sections 85 and 86 BNS) and economic offences are among the matters on which clients consult him. Every case starts with a review of the FIR, the chargesheet if one has been filed, and the stage of the investigation.

Divorce, Maintenance and Custody

Divorce by mutual consent under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, contested divorce, maintenance under Section 144 BNSS (earlier Section 125 CrPC), interim maintenance and permanent alimony under Sections 24 and 25 of the Hindu Marriage Act, and child custody. In Amardeep Singh v. Harveen Kaur (2017) the Supreme Court held that the six-month cooling-off period under Section 13B(2) can be waived in appropriate cases, a point that matters in many mutual consent divorces. See our guide on when maintenance can be denied.

Property and Inheritance

Title and possession disputes, partition and inheritance under the applicable succession laws, division of property on divorce, and disputes over wills. Work begins with a review of the title documents, the revenue and registration records, and any earlier court orders, so that the right remedy and the right court are identified before filing.

Cyber Crime and Higher Courts

Online fraud and impersonation, identity theft, cyber defamation, non-consensual sharing of private images and online extortion, under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (including Sections 66C, 66D, 66E and 67) and the BNS. Before the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court, the practice includes writ petitions, special leave petitions and criminal appeals.
